La Florentine Panforte
Panforte
12 oz. - Panforte. This traditional Italian fruit cake confection originated in Siena, Italy. Panforte, (meaning "strong bread") now enjoys wide popularity throughout Italy. Round in shape, Panforte's basic ingredients are fresh almonds, candied fruit (primarily citrus), spices and honey. Though Panforte may be served with a wide range of wines, in Italy, it is particularly popular with Vin Santo... A sweet raisin wine. Historically, its origins date to the late 1800’s, however, it is believed that it originated around the time of the Crusades, because soldiers needed a easily transportable, non-perishable source of nourishment for long journeys. Product of Italy.
